Ezzy Free Ride  III  2009 - 2010

The Ezzy Free(ride)3 blends supreme sail performance with Technora® sailcloth.

The dark panel on the Free(ride)3 consists of Technora® fibers. Technora® is a para-aramid fiber that weight for weight is 8 times stronger than steel and 3 times stronger than nylon and Dacron®. Since Technora® is so light, we are able to save considerable weight in the sail. Furthermore, the low stretch of Technora® means less stretch distortion along the leech when a gust hits, producing a more stable feeling sail.

How does the Free(ride)3 compare to our previous Freeride?

  1. The new Free(ride)3 points significantly higher and has a much
    greater reaching angle.

  2. Higher wind range. You can comfortably sail the new Freeride one
square meter bigger and one square meter smaller.

  3. Lighter and much easier to handle.

Other key features:

  • Contains no monofilm.
  • Body panels made with Spectra X Ply.
  • RBS epoxy battens.
  • Vinyl window. Removable triple block tack pulley with D-ring option.
  • Color coded outhaul and downhaul rigging indicators.
  • Every sail is rigged and checked in our factory

 EZZY INFINITY 2009

The new Infinity is built with Technora® sailcloth.

Technora® is a para-aramid fiber that weight for weight is 8 times stronger than steel and 3 times stronger than nylon and Dacron. Since Technora® is so light, we are able to save considerable weight in the sail. Furthermore, the low stretch of Technora® means there is less stretch distortion along the leech when a gust hits. This produces a more stable feeling sail.

The Infinity's deep, draft-forward profile provides superb low-end power and when flattened with outhaul, the Infinity handles overpowered sailing like a dream. The Infinity's narrow sleeve won't fill up with water which makes water starting and uphauling easy. The camber inducer system will fit any SDM or RDM mast made within the last 15 years.

How does the new infinity compare to our previous Infinity?

  1. Much lighter and easier to handle in jibes and tacks.

  2. More stable in straight line sailing.

  3. Increased wind range.

Other key features:

  • Contains no monofilm.
  • Body panels made with Spectra X Ply.
  • RBS epoxy battens.
  • Vinyl window.
  • Removable triple block tack pulley with D-ring option.
  • Color coded outhaul and downhaul rigging indicators.
  • Every sail is rigged and checked in our factory.

EZZY PANTHER 2009 (Replaces SE Wave)

The 2009 Wave Panther takes over from the long running and successful
Wave SE
as our premier wave sail.

Compared to the SE, the Panther has a shorter boom and is lighter weight. On the water, the Wave Panther has a smooth and direct power delivery, combined with very easy handling.

The Panther's design advantage allows operation in a wider wind range, so you can sail longer without the need to re-rig.

The leech area of the Panther utilizes our new, low stretch Technora-fiber sailcloth, which delivers superior performance with less weight. The Panther's mid and luff sections are made of our Spectra X film, for strength and great visibility throughout the body of the sail. We use higher density Spectra X film in the foot area to resist harness hook tears and nose-of-the-board punctures.

Other key features include:

  • A removable downhaul pulley
  • Weft reinforced sleeve cloth
  • Flip-up adjustable mast pad
  • RBS battens and a vinyl window that won’t scratch

Plus, we rig every Wave Panther before it is shipped so that you are ready to go with the correct batten tension and adjustable head setting.

At Ezzy, we constantly strive for the highest standards in our designs, materials, manufacturing and the Wave Panther carries on that tradition.

 EZZY FREERIDE  2008 - 2009

Yellow Freeride Blue Freeride Red Freeride Orange Freeride
  • Improved low-end power.
  • Better top end speed.
  • Lighter weight.
  • Better trimming guides.

The Ezzy Freeride has cracked the conundrum of how to achieve a sail with the speed, the power and the stability associated with cam sails but without using any cams at all. The deep, draft forward profile of the Freeride actually looks similar to a cammed sail, but instead of using the mechanics of a camber to put the shape into the sail, the Freeride shape comes from a refined technique of seam shaping.

Of course, now a sail easier to rig, and without the cams, the Freeride flips quicker in jibes. That, simply put, means a faster jibe.

The Freeride is built to last, so it contains no monofilm. Stitch for stitch, material for material, the Freeride is built exactly like its cousin, the Ezzy Wave. The Freeride sail body panels are made with our Spectra X film. The foot uses an even stronger, closer spaced, puncture-proof Spectra X film. The vinyl window offers superior visibility and can be cleaned for the life of the sail. And the Freeride employs our removable, triple pulley system which makes downhauling very easy.

Tuning the Freeride is a snap. For setting the downhaul, there are visual indicators on the leech which show you exactly how much downhaul to apply. For setting the outhaul, the Freeride has three clew guide cords, one for light wind, one for medium wind and one for high wind. All you do is set your boom to the length of the guide cord and then outhaul to the end of the boom.

Finally, our quality is second to none. That's why we rig each and every sail in our factory. And while we're rigging, we set the adjustable top to the correct mast length, we adjust the battens with their correct tension then, we carefully inspect the sail. Only once it passes our rigorous inspection does it go into the bag for shipping on to you.

2007 Special Edition Ezzy Wave

"David Ezzy Explains the 2007 SE Sails"

The new 2007 Wave SE sails have radically more shape forward than previous sails. I am referring mainly to the two battens directly above the boom. Battens #3 and #4 have a very deep draft right behind the mast. Having this extreme shape forward gives the sails a very stable, yet powerful feeling.
Yellow SE Orange SE Blue SE

The critical design feature is that the draft does not extend back.
The endobatten allows us to really wind up the batten tension and still keep the sail symmetrical and easy to flip. A traditional batten pocket would not work with my new profile.

The draft in the middle battens is very rigid, almost like having a cam, but the sail still has a soft feeling and flips easily. The fact that the batten is so locked makes the sails very stable.

New Rigging Concept for 2007:

The required downhaul tension is much less on the new ’07 sails. In fact, if you over-downhaul you kill the nice feeling. The reason is that if you downhaul too much, you remove a lot of the forward draft that is built into the sail.

The new sails have a huge outhaul range. It can be as little as 2.5 cm and up to 6.5cm. The outhaul is the main way to flatten the sail. In strong winds you use a lot of outhaul. Having a lot of positive outhaul is a good thing. It equates to how much range a sail has. Many sails on the market have one outhaul setting that varies only by on about a cm either way for light wind and heavy wind. This means these sails will have less wind range.
Our sail on the other hand can be set totally bagged out, or super flat. Both settings feel great.

Other Refinements:

We have new sleeve cloth this year for the wave sail. This cloth has surpassed my expectations. We now have much stronger yarns in the warp and weft, plus an extra weft yarn that stops the tears from traveling up the sleeve. While testing the sleeve cloth, two of my riders broke masts at Hookipa. Neither of them tore the sleeve. But what was most surprising is that both of the guys sailed their rigs back to the beach with fully broken masts and the mast sleeve material held together and did not tear. In my 30 years of windsurfing I have never seen this happen, let alone twice!

Also new this year is the tack pulley. I have had many people request a pulley over the years and I finally got around to designing one. At first I looked at just using the same pulley design that Pryde and everyone else uses. After testing it I realized that it had a design flaw because the pulleys turn in opposite directions when threaded for a standard base. They need to have dividers to stop the pulleys from touching. The dividers also stop the rope from jumping a pulley while rigging.

There are other smaller improvements as well. A new clew patch better supports loading, a new head patch and extra reinforcement on the foot of the sails. Also, a new window shape and additional leech stabilizers between battens #3 and #4.

The 6.5 and 7.0 SE have 6 battens (like last year) but the boom has been shortened up a bit on both, which gives them nicer handling. These two sizes are called "Ezzy Wave Free-Ride Edition".

Last but not least, we have greatly enhanced the colors for ’07. All of the new colors are very noticeable on the water. Feedback has been terrific.

EZZY INFINITY 2007

The 2007 Infinity’s deep, draft-forward design makes it a very powerful flat-water sail. The Infinity has two removable cams, one above and one below the boom. With both cams in, this sail is a perfect free ride/slalom sail. The shape is forward which means the Infinity can be set with an extremely deep draft for lighter winds without the back hand getting loaded. Take the top cam out and use the Infinity with just the lower cam and you get the ease of rotation of a no-cam sail, with the power and stability of a cambered sail. Take both cams out and you have a great blasting sail for small waves.

Yellow Infinity Orange Infinity Red Infinity

The Infinity utilizes the Ezzy Universal Cam system, which fits any mast diameter from a skinny to 15 year old standard diameter mast.

The Infinity utilizes our Endo-Batten Construction which means it doesn’t have traditional batten pockets laid on top of the sail panels. Instead, the batten is sandwiched between the sail's panel layers providing the same, symmetrical profile to the sail on both starboard and port tack.

New Rigging Concept:

The required downhaul tension is less on the new ’07 sails. In fact, if you over-downhaul you kill the nice feeling. The reason is that if you downhaul too much, you remove a lot of the forward draft that is built into the sail.

The new Infinity has a huge outhaul range. The more the outhaul range, the more the wind range. It can be set as little as 0.5 cm for lighter wind and up to 6.5cm of positive outhaul for stronger winds.

Other Refinements for 2007:

Also new this year is the tack pulley. Our pulley has vertical dividers that make threading the rope faster and also reduce the friction between the pulleys.

The Infinity will out-last the other freeride or cammed sails sold today. The Infinity has no monofilm. It is made with our Spectra® Reinforced "X" Film. In fact, the Infinity has the same construction as the Ezzy Wave SE, including a vinyl window that can be cleaned and won’t scratch!

Last but not least, we have greatly enhanced the colors for ’07. All of the new colors are very noticeable on the water. Feedback has been terrific.
