Windsurfing Sail Size Accuracy

Why are some sail makers adding 1/2 meter to the sail area but leaving incorrect size numbers on the sails? To test this theory put 3 sail sizes all with the same sail size printed on the sail. Lets start with 5.5 meter sails. You will notice some brands are 8 to 10 cm bigger on the trailing edge. Which sail is better. Well the most powerful 5.5 would be the best correct? Not so quick. That sail is really a 6.0 and added area to fool you. This is the oldest trick in the book for making your brand seem more powerful. Some call it the cheater meter. Honest sail makers like Dave Ezzy measures his sails correctly. So you may want to compare your sail against an Ezzy to get the true size.
